Thank Yous
First off, Happy Birthday to Jasey and Kaka Elle. =) Much love to u both. xox
I've been away from posting for so long, that although my Conference has been over for 2-4days, i've gotten lazy. I apologise.. but i'm back now. =)
The past week has been amazing. Bloody tiring, cos i was working almost-15hr days. But lots of fun, cos i got to meet ALOT of ppl.. from all over the world and those i got the chance to work with.
It was a hectic time. My job started way before the Conference but Sunday was when the first of the Speakers arrived, so that's when i started taking the stand. Monday especially was crazy. I think over 22 of them arrived at the Empire at various times. Which means i had hardly enough time to relax my smiles and catch a breath before the next batch arrived.
I dint eat at all that day.. by 10am i was at the Hotel and receiving guests. They just kept coming. By the time i took my first drink of water, it was 6.30pm... and my first meal of the day, i took at 10.30pm. I tell myself i was running on adrenalin, cos i sure as heck dint get anything else into my system.
The next 3 days were busy. But the 2nd day was bearable and i was told i was smiling alot that day. You shouldve been concentrating on the Speakers. ;) It was a good day in the sense that most things were running smoothly and so i got some time to chat with my LOs. And also the dinner at the Polo Club that night was fun. Kinda slipped our minds for a moment that we were being so loud and raucous at the back of the hall while the VIPs were seated in front. hehe
The Speakers are lovely ppl. I'm happy that the students got a chance to have a chat with them and get to know them. Already i know many of them were networking and trying to obtain material for the next paper they have to prepare. =)
A very big thank you to the lovely ppl at Empire for being so accommodating.. specially when i'm making all sorts of demands. And also, for remembering that i had a bad throat and remembering to offer me tea and honey everyday. =) I got 2 job offers from them, so i cant have been all that bad to work with. heheh Although im not sure i wanna work with Abg Nigel.. he's a big enough bully as it is. =P
The Committee did a wonderful job. Together we managed to iron out any kinks and complications that inevitably rise from huge events such as this. A couple of Committee members i'm very thankful for for being by my side the whole time. They kept me sane when i was reaching breaking point. (Although at one point, ONE of them told me to go away cos he dint wanna share his food. hehe) Thank you for the experience.
Not forgetting my LO students who were a Godsend. 'Cept for a couple exceptions, they were the nicest ppl to work with. Armed with incredibly sarcastic wit and the warmest hearts, they made my achey muscles and snappy temper SO worth it. I cannot thank you guys enough for taking the time to help the Committee out before the big event, for staying late at the Centre to keep us company when it was obviously getting late and we knew u had families and friends to go home to.. and for spending that little extra time with your Speakers, cos we obviously couldnt do so much at once. For that i am grateful.. despite the fact that maybe it was cos a couple of u loved ur Speakers more than others. ;)
We shared meals and choc cake (albeit rushed), laughed during dinner till our tummies ached, and took any chance we got to goof around. You guys made working all the more fun and i am so privileged to have gotten the chance to meet you, to work with you and get to know each one of you. A huge appreciative THANK YOU to u lot.
Most of the Speakers left on friday.. which meant that i was at the airport for most of the day. And with the departure of the last one, who left on Sat, but i dint get to send off cos i had class.. our Conference is officially over.
Ever since it ended, it's been a bit of an anti-climax. Although ive been tired and i dint get to see my friends for ages, it was truly an experience. Now it's back to reality.. classes, assignments to do, and exams in 3wks. I'm thankful for the rest ive gotten.. catching up on lost time. =)
Dint think i'd see my LOs again so soon after it all ended. But then during classes on Sat, i either ran into a few of them.. or they turned up at the door waving to us thru the glass. hahah What a distraction they are! You guys are some of the best. I'll see u around uni. ;)
